APH1A: Small Molecules and Peptides

Anterior pharynx-defective 1 (APH1A) is a widely expressed 36 kDa 7-transmembrane protein found in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi. APH1A is a component of the gamma secretase proteolytic complex which cleaves multiple substrates within their transmembrane domains. This activity liberates the intracellular domains of ErbB4, Neuregulin-1, and Notch receptors in addition to the A-beta peptide from the amyloid precursor protein (APP). Alternate splicing generates a short isoform of human APH1a that lacks 18 amino acids at the C-terminus.
