5-HT1E: Small Molecules and Peptides
5-HT1E is one of the several different receptors for 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin), a biogenic hormone that functions as a neurotransmitter, a hormone, and a mitogen. The activity of 5-HT1E is mediated by G proteins that inhibit adenylate cyclase activity. The 5-HT1E receptor is found mainly in the cerebral cortex. Abnormal function of the serotonergic system has been implicated in a variety of neurologic and psychiatric diseases. 5-HT1E may play a role in these diseases.
