Pools of purified IgA isolated from Rhesus monkey serum. Freund's complete adjuvant is used in the first step of the immunization procedure.

Inter-species cross-reactivity is a normal feature of antibodies to immunoglobulins, since Ig of different species frequently share antigenic determinants. Precipitation reactions have been observed with immunoglobulins in Serum of other old-world Monkeys, including Cercopithecus, Cynomolgus and Baboon. The conjugate may also react with other species as has been observed for Chimpanzee and man.

The reactivity of the antiserum is restricted to the Fc part of the IgA molecule. In immuno-electrophoresis and radial immunodiffusion, using various antiserum concentrations against normal monkey serum a single precipitin line is obtained which shows a reaction of identity with the precipitin line obtained with purified IgA. No precipitation reaction is obtained with purified IgG, IgM, and IgG/Fab fragments.

The lyophilized antiserum is shipped at ambient temperature and may be stored at 4C; prolonged storage at or below -20C. Dilutions may be prepared by adding phosphate buffered saline (PBS, pH 7.2). Repeated thawing and freezing should be avoided. If a slight precipitation occurs upon storage, this should be removed by centrifugation. It will not affect the performance of the antiserum. Diluted antiserum should be stored at 4C, not refrozen, and preferably used the same day.

Reconstitute the lyophilized antiserum by adding 1 ml sterile distilled water. Dilutions may be prepared by adding phosphate buffered saline (PBS, pH 7.2).

Store at 4C short term. Aliquot and store at -20C long term. Avoid freeze-thaw cycles.
