MGMT: Small Molecules and Peptides

The O-6-methylguanine-DNA-methyl transferase (MGMT) is involved in the direct repair of DNA alkylated at the O6 position of guanine. MGMT transfers the alkyl group to its own cysteine thereby inactivating the MGMT molecule. Therefore, the number of MGMT molecules correlates directly with the cell's ability to withstand DNA alkylation.
