FAQs for Recombinant Mouse IL-12 Protein

  • What is the extra band observed when running Recombinant Mouse IL-12 Protein (Catalog # 419-ML) in Western blot?

Recombinant mouse IL‑12 preparations were proteolytically cleaved between residues G158 and E159 of the mature p35 subunit. Thus, under reducing conditions, three bands representing the p40 subunit, the p35 R1 ‑ G158 peptide and the p35 E159 - A193 peptide can be observed in SDS-PAGE.

  • Should I use Recombinant Mouse IL-12 Protein formulated with carrier BSA (Catalog # 419-ML) or the Recombinant Mouse IL-12 Protein, CF (Catalog # 419-ML/CF) that is carrier-free (no BSA) for my in vivo experiments?

For in vivo aplications, we would recommend using the carrier-free Recombinant Mouse IL-12 Protein (Catalog # 419-ML/CF). The injection of a carrier protein such as BSA can cause side effects and sometimes death to the experimental animal. For more information regarding use of the protein for in vivo applications, we would recommend consulting the Citations tab on the product-specific page.

  • Is there a mass to unit conversion factor for Recombinant Mouse IL-12 Protein (Catalog # 419-ML & 419-ML/CF)?

We have not developed a specific mass to unit conversion factor for Recombinant Mouse IL-12 Protein (Catalog # 419-ML & 419-ML/CF).  Our best recommendation is to perform a dose-response study for your assay to determine the optimal concentration for your experiment.  We recommend checking the Citations tab on the product-specific page to review publications citing use of the product.
