Background: Serpin I1
Serpin I1 (serine proteinase inhibitor-clade I 1; also protease inhibitor 17 and neuroserpin) is a 52 kDa member of the serpin superfamily of protease inhibitors. It is a component of dense-core secretory granules in neurons of the cerebellum, hippocampus and hypothalamus and following release shows inhibitory activity towards tissue-type plasminogen activator. The mouse Serpin I1 precursor is 410 amino acids (aa) in length. It contains a 16 aa signal sequence plus a reactive center loop that lies between Gly348 and Pro375. Mature mouse Serpin I1 (aa 17‑410) shares 88% and 92% aa identity with human and rat Serpin I1, respectively.
