Background: beta-1,4-Glucuronyltransferase 1/B4GAT1
B3GNT1 ( beta-1,3-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase 1; also iGnT) is a 50 kD member of the beta3GnT family of enzymes. It is synthesized by sensory neurons, endothelial cells and skeletal muscle. In the trans-Golgi, it collaborates with B4GALT1 to generate a linear poly-N-acetyllactosamine sequence that can be incorporated into either N-linked or O-linked glycans. Human B3GNT1 is a 451 amino acid (aa) type II transmembrane protein. It contains an eight aa N-terminal cytoplasmic segment, an extended 28 aa transmembrane region (aa 9-36), and a 379 aa luminal domain (aa 37-415). Over aa 37-415, human B3GNT1 shares 97% aa identity with mouse B3GNT1.
