Background: ABCA13

ATP-binding cassette sub-family A member 13, also known as ABCA13, is a protein that belongs to the ATP-binding cassette family of transporter proteins, a large family with at least 48 members and 7 gene subfamilies. Human ABCA13 is one of the largest known ABC transportes with 12 or more transmembrane alpha-helix domains that likely arrange to form a single central chamber with multiple substrate binding sites. Human ABCA13 has been shown to be associated with psychiatric disorders like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
