TBX18 is a 607 amino acid, 65 kDa (predicted) protein that is a member of the T-box family of developmentally expressed transcription factors. It is expressed in the anterior portion of the embryonic head, somites and limb buds. It is expressed on pluripotent progenitors in the developing epicardium where it is required for formation of the cardiac AV node, and can also contribute to fibroblast and smooth muscle formation.
