PTP1B: Small Molecules and Peptides

Protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) dephosphorylates tyrosine residues on several proteins including c-Src, beta-catenin, and the receptors for insulin and epidermal growth factor. PTP1B knock-out mice are resistant to high-caloric intake-induced obesity and have exaggerated insulin responses, suggesting that PTP1B may play a role in regulating growth factor responsiveness.
