PLC-gamma 1: Small Molecules and Peptides
PLC gamma-1 is an intracellular protein that contains two SH2, one SH3, one plekstrin homology (PH), and two catalytic domains. Activated PLC gamma-1 catalyzes the hydrolysis of phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate to produce the second messengers inositol 1,4,5-triphosphate (IP3) and diacylglycerol (DAG). IP3 mobilizes the release of calcium while DAG activates protein kinase C. PLC gamma-1 is activated by receptor tyrosine kinases in response to growth factors and hormones, and plays an important role in regulating cell proliferation and differentiation.
