MMP-7: Small Molecules and Peptides
Matrix metalloproteinase 7, also known as Matrilysin, is a zinc and calcium dependent endopeptidase that is expressed in epithelial cells of normal and diseased tissues. It can digest a wide range of extracellular matrix proteins including Collagens IV and X, Gelatin, Casein, Laminin, Aggrecan, Entactin, Elastin, and Versican. MMP-7 can activate other proteinases such as Plasminogen, MMP-1, MMP-2, and MMP-9. In addition, MMP-7 regulates the activation or shedding of alpha-Defensin, TNF-alpha, and Fas Ligand.
