Midkine: Small Molecules and Peptides
Midkine (MK) is a member of a family of neurotrophic and developmentally-regulated heparin-binding molecules that currently consists of midkine, pleiotrophin/PTN and avian RI-HB. Across species, MK shows 87% amino acid identity between the human and mouse proteins. Between family members, human MK is approximately 50% identical to human PTN.
