Background: Reg3A
Regenerating islet-derived protein III alpha (Reg3A), also named Pancreatitis Associated-Protein 2 (PAP-2), is a secreted, 17 kDa member of the Reg family. These C-type lectin superfamily proteins are involved in various biological functions, including liver and pancreatic regeneration and proliferation. Reg3A is predominately expressed in intestine and exocrine pancreas. It is also induced in primary liver tumors but is not expressed in normal liver. Mature mouse Reg3A contains 149 amino acid residues and shares less than 60% aa sequence identity with other Reg3 proteins. The protein sequence of mouse Reg3A is 87% and 61% identical to that of rat and human Reg3A, respectively.
