Background: Heparan Sulfate 6-O-Sulfotransferase 2/HS6ST2

HS6ST2 is a key enzyme in HS biosynthesis. There are at least three alternatively spliced forms, which include a long form (645 aa, NP_001070656), an intermediate form (605 aa, Q96MM7) with 40 aa deleted between Arg 316 and Asn 357 of the long form, and a short form starting at Met 147 of the intermediate form. Both the long and intermediate forms predict a type II membrane protein, consistent with its Golgi location. The long form of human HS6ST2 shares 94% and 86% aa sequence identities with that of chimpanzee, dog, mouse, rat, and chicken, respectively.
