OGG1: Proteins and Enzymes

Ogg1 encodes the enzyme responsible for the excision of 8-oxoguanine, a mutagenic base byproduct which occurs as a result of exposure to reactive oxygen. 8-hydroxyguanine, a form of oxidative DNA damage induced by free radicals, causes G:C to T:A transversion.
