C15orf48 was identified by its low or completely missing expression in esophageal squamous cell carcinomas. Normal expression of the gene occurs in the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon and placenta. Alternatively spliced transcript variants that encode the same protein have been identified. Transcript Variant: This variant (2) contains an additional segment of 5' UTR sequence when compared to variant 1. Both variants 1 and 2 encode the same protein.
