GDF-7/BMP-12: Proteins and Enzymes

Growth Differentiation Factor 7, also known as BMP-12 or CDMP-3, is a member of the bone morphogenetic protein family in theTGF-beta superfamily. GDF-7 can regulate chondrogenesis, bone morphogenesis, and neuron differentiation. The cellular response to GDF-7 is mediated by the formation of hetero-oligomeric complexes of type I (BMPR-IB) and type II (BMPR-II or Activin R-II) sereine/threonine kinase receptors followed by the activiation of Smad proteins.
