Biglycan: Proteins and Enzymes
Biglycan is a small secreted proteoglycan that belongs to the leucine-rich repeat (LRR) protein family. It contains a central 12 LRR domain flanked by small cysteine clusters at either side. Two glycosaminoglycan chains are attached near the amino terminus. Biglycan functions in connective tissue metabolism by binding to collagen fibrils. It also plays a role in neuronal survival and skeletal bone growth/remodeling.
