Background: IRF3

IRF3 is a member of the interferon regulator transcription factor family. IRF3 is typically found inactive in the cytoplasm. IRF3 is activated by the toll like receptors (TLR3 and TLR4), as well as, viral entry. Upon activation and phosphorylation, IRF3 heterodimerizes with CREBBP, which translocates to the nucleus to stimulate transcription. IRF3 does not contain transactivation function on its own; it must either recruit or be part of a complex of transcription factors to stimulate gene transcription.
