Background: CD300g/Nepmucin
Nepmucin (a not expressed in Peyer's Patch mucin; also CLM-9, CD300g and TREM4) is a member of the CD300L family of proteins. It is expressed on endothelium and serves multiple functions. It is known to form homotypic interactions between endothelial cells, bind lymphocytes via its Ig-like and mucin domains and serve as a transcellular transport vehicle for IgA and IgM. Mature mouse Nepmucin is a 397 amino acid (aa) type I transmembrane glycoprotein. Its extracellular region (aa 19‑288) contains one V-type Ig-like domain (aa 19‑124) plus an O-glycosylated mucin region (aa 136‑276). There are at least three isoform variants. One is 60‑75 kDa in size and shows an Ala substitution for aa 126‑170, a second is 46‑50 kDa in size and shows an Arg substitution for aa 170‑254, while a third is 36 kDa in size and shows a SerTyr substitution for aa 134‑256. Over aa 1‑284, mouse Nepmucin shares 89% and 53% aa identity with rat and human Nepmucin, respectively.
