Background: Chondromodulin-1
Chondromodulin-1 (ChM-1), also known as Lect1, is a type II transmembrane protein that is cleaved intracellularly resulting in the secretion of a 25 kDa molecule. ChM-1 is expressed in avascular cartilage, cardiac valves, and the eye. The antiangiogenic properties of ChM-1 can block tumor progression and the pathological vascularization of cardiac valves. Human ChM-1 shares 89%‑92% aa sequence identity with bovine, mouse, rabbit, and rat ChM-1.
