PP1: Small Molecules and Peptides

PP1 (Protein Phosphatase 1), also known as PPP1, is an enzyme that removes phosphate groups from serine or threonine residues. The holoenzyme is composed of two subunits. The catalytic subunit is highly conserved throughout evolution, and interacts with a wide range of proteins acting as regulatory subunits that target the enzyme to specific subcellular compartments and substrates. The catalytic subunit is ubiquitously expressed in tissues and cell lines.
