Basic Leucine Zipper Transcriptional Factor ATF-like 3 (BATF3), also known as p21SNFT, is a nuclear member of the AP-1 family of transcription factors. Human BAFT3 is 127 amino acids (aa) in length and has a predicted molecular weight of 20 kDa. The mouse ortholog shares 80% aa sequence identity with the human protein. BATF3 contains a DNA-binding motif (aa 41-59) and a leucine zipper (aa 63-84) and forms a heterodimer with Jun family proteins to regulate gene transcription. BATF3 is required for the development and differentiation of mouse CD8 alpha+ and Integrin alpha E/CD103+ conventional dendritic cells.
