Background: Vasohibin
Vasohibin is an endothelium-derived negative feedback regulator of angiogenesis. The 365 amino acid (aa), 44 kDa human Vasohibin shows 93% aa identity with mouse Vasohibin. Vasohibin has no canonical signal sequence, but the full-length form is only associated with cells, while N-terminally cleaved, active 42 kDa and 36 kDa forms are both cell-associated and secreted. Minor amounts of C-terminally cleaved 27 kDa form are inactive and lack the C-terminal heparin-binding basic domain. Vasohibin expression is upregulated by VEGF and FGF‑2, but this can be modulated by IL-1, TNF‑ alpha, or IFN‑ gamma.
