Meprin alpha Subunit/MEP1A: Proteins and Enzymes
Meprins are multimeric zinc proteases, composed of alpha/MEP1A and beta/MEP1B subunits, that are members of the astacin family. Both subunits form disulfide-linked homo- or hetero-oligomers. Although the two subunits share 42% amino acid identity in their multi-domain structure, they differ significantly in their oligomeric structure, post-translational processing, cellular location and substrate specificity.
