IL-6 (Interleukin-6) is a pleiotropic cytokine that acts in the acute phase reaction, inflammation, hematopoiesis, bone metabolism, and cancer progression. It contributes to chronic inflammation in obesity, inflammatory bowel disease, arthritis, sepsis, and atherosclerosis.
