Etifoxine hydrochloride is a potentiator of GABAA receptor function in cultured neurons. Preferentially acts on β2 or β3 subunit-containing GABAA receptors. Exhibits anxiolytic activity in rodents and humans with no sedative, myorelaxant or mnesic side effects.
