Reconstitution

Reconstitute lyophilized material at 0.2 mg/ml in sterile PBS. For liquid material, refer to CoA for concentration.

Background: Vancomycin

Vancomycin is a complex tricyclic glycopeptide antibiotic, produced by Streptococcus orientalis, which has been used for almost 60 years. This antibiotic is bactericidal for re-productive bacteria: inhibits bacterial cell wall (peptidoglycan ) biosynthesis. Can successfully treat severe infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria, and was found efficient to fight microorganisms resistant to other antibiotics and prescribed to patients who are allergic to penicillins cephalosporins. Vancomycin used a lot in intensive care units to treat both hospital infections and sepsis, as well as pneumonia, empyema, endocarditis, osteomyelitis and soft tissue abscesses. Its adverse effects include hypotension, tachycardia, phlebitis, nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity.
