Background: Carboxymethyl Lysine
Carboxymethyl Lysine (CML) is an advanced glycation end product found on proteins and lipids as a result of oxidative stress and chemical glycation. CML adducts accumulate with aging and in several pathologies including Alzheimers disease, diabetes, and uremia. CML-modified proteins are recognized by the receptor RAGE which is expressed on a variety of cells.
