Background: CXCR2/IL-8RB
CXCR2/IL-8RB is a member of the CXC chemokine receptor subfamily. Similar to other chemokine receptors, it is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR). Human CXCR2/IL-8RB is 360 amino acids (aa) in length with a predicted molecular weight of 41 kDa. The human protein shares 71% aa sequence identity with the mouse and rat protein. CXCR2/IL-8RB is expressed on neutrophils and activates neutrophil chemotaxis. Similar to the closely related CXCR1/IL-8RA, CXCR2/IL-8RB binds and mediates CXCL8/IL-8-induced neutrophil activation. It also binds additional CXC chemokine ligands that contain an ELR aa motif. CXCR2/IL-8RB is implicated in neurological and pulmonary inflammatory diseases and injury. As such, it is a therapeutic target of interest in inflammatory disease and cancer.
