Background: Integrin alpha 3/CD49c

Integrin alpha3, also known as CD49c and VLA-3 alpha, is a type I membrane protein that heterodimerizes with Integrin beta1. alpha3 beta1 is a cell surface adhesion molecule that functions as a receptor for Laminin, Fibronectin, Collagen, Epiligrin, Thrombospondin and Chondroitin Sulfate Proteoglycan 4. The extracellular domain of human and mouse Integrin alpha3 share approximately 87% amino acid sequence homology.
