Background: MCK-2
MCK-2 (Mouse Cytomegalovirus/CMV-encoded Chemokine 2) is a secreted, 46-kDa member of the viral CC family of chemokines. It is a product of two CMV open reading frames that are spliced together to create a two-domain molecule. The N-terminal 60 amino acids (aa) represent a typical CC chemokine. The remaining 199 aa have an unknown function. CMV-infected cells use MCK-2 to chemoattract immature mononuclear cells. These cells are subsequently infected and transmit the virus to salivary gland.
