Background: Serpin A8/Angiotensinogen
Angiotensinogen, a member of the serpin family (Serpin A8), is synthesized in liver and cleaved by renin to produce angiotensin I. This is further processed by angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) to yield angiotensin II, a key blood pressure regulator. The amino acid sequence of human AGT is 99%, 68%, 64%, and 61% identical to that of chimpanzee, canine, rat, and mouse.
