Background: RUNX3/CBFA3

RUNX3, also known as CBFA3 and PEBP2 alpha (polyomavirus enhancer binding protein 2 alpha) is a member of the runt-related (RUNX) family of transcription factors. It is the DNA binding subunit of the heterodimeric transcription factor CBF/PEBP2. RUNX3 is a nuclear effector of the BMP/TGF-beta pathways and its inactivation or reduced expression is associated with numerous human malignancies. Two isoforms that differ in their N-terminal 5/19 residues have been reported. The 415 amino acid residue of human RUNX3 shares 91% amino acid sequence homology with mouse or rat RUNX3.
