Background: ILK
Integrin-linked kinase (ILK) is an ankyrin repeat-containing serine/threonine protein kinase that interacts with the cytoplasmic domain of beta1 and beta3 integrins. ILK functions with multiple binding partners to transmit signals from the extracellular matrix to actin filaments, regulating such processes as cellular attachment, cell cycle progression, and cytoskeletal organization. ILK kinase activity is induced by PI3 kinase and negatively regulated by the tumor suppressor PTEN.
