Background: Integrin alpha 4/CD49d

Integrin alpha4, also known as CD49d, is a transmembrane protein that forms heterodimers with beta1 or beta7 integrins. These complexes contribute to the trafficking of many hematopoietic cell types. Integrins alpha4 beta1 (also known as VLA-4) and alpha4 beta7 (LPAM-1) are receptors for fibronectin, VCAM and MAdCAM-1.
